I run this blog. The content here is neither approved nor reviewed by MEC management before posting. This doesn’t mean I have complete autonomy and independence. After all, MEC pays my salary which goes directly to my mortgage and my toddler’s extensive toy and book collection. Naturally, I’m going to watch what I say. To read MEC’s official position on ethical sourcing, visit mec.ca/sourcing.

MEC has given me this incredible opportunity to really push the conversation “or envelope” on this subject. The payback for MEC, besides some occasional grief, is transparency. Transparency and honesty are central to getting us to understand what’s happening in factories. Knowing what happens leads to hope and a better life for workers.
I don’t work in Communications for MEC. I’m the Director for Ethical Sourcing. My job is to police our factories and to improve the human condition of workers by collaborating with everyone.
For those of you who don't know, MEC is a retail co-op that has a long history in just causes. Hence, I have a lot of innate (or genetic) corporate support for what I do, including this blog. You have two ways to reach me. Blog me here with your thoughts or email me at harveychan@mec.ca. I will only respond to legitimate queries.
